Radon is a naturally occurring gas created by the decay of Uranium, is colorless, oderless, and is produced in most soils and rocks. Why is it of concern?
- Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States accounting for over 20,000 deaths per year.
- Radon gas is measured in “picocuries” and the EPA recommends the home owner take action when its levels reach 4 picocuries per liter or more.
- In Monroe County, NY alone there are three towns with over 25% of the homes tested above EPA’s recommended action level.
